GYUGYUぎゅうぎゅうRush Hour Crew

A first-person physics roguelite about oshiya, the platform staff who push rush-hour passengers onto the train. The doors close in thirty seconds. Everyone is getting on.

What is this

You are an oshiya: a uniformed professional in white gloves whose whole job is fitting more people onto a train than a train holds. The train pulls in, the doors open, and you have thirty seconds to shove, grab and carry a platform of bouncy passengers aboard.

Then it gets worse on purpose. Hit the quota, get paid, shove a vending machine for a strange upgrade, pick your next stop on the line, and try to keep the station open. Solo first, with online co-op for a crew of up to four. It is in development for Steam and has no release date.

How a shift goes

  1. The train arrives

A chime, a rumble, and it stops at the yellow line. Nobody else does.

  2. The doors open

You have thirty seconds. Commuters board by themselves until the car looks full. After that they are yours.

  3. Shove

Push, grab, carry. The grandma will not move unless pushed. The couple will not be separated. The man with the umbrella should not be touched, and you are going to touch him.

  4. 3, 2, 1

The closing warning sounds. The salaryman, who has been on his phone this whole time, runs for the doors.

  5. The report

Passengers aboard against the quota, then your pay. Miss the quota and you are fined and lose reputation. Run out of reputation and the station closes.

Who is on the platform

Every passenger is a physics body with somewhere else to be. These are the regulars.

  • Commuter

    つうきんしゃ

Boards without help until the car looks full. Then stands at the door and waits for you.

  • Salaryman

    サラリーマン

On his phone until the closing warning. Then he sprints. He bounces.

  • Tourist

    かんこうきゃく

Heading for the wrong end of the platform. The suitcase catches on everything.

  • Grandma

    おばあちゃん

Will not move unless pushed. Very hard to knock over. Not in a hurry.

  • Umbrella Guy

    かさのひと

Opens a very large umbrella when jostled. You are about to jostle him.

  • Couple

    カップル

Two people, one joint. Splitting them up costs you.

  • Influencer

    インフルエンサー

Stops dead for a selfie, often in a doorway, until bumped.

  • Kid

    こども

Small, light and fast. Slips out of your hands.

  • Drunk

    よっぱらい

Falls over without your help. Falls over sooner with it.

  • Shopping Bags

    かいものぶくろ

One shove bursts the bags. He goes back for every orange.

Platform rules

  • Stand behind the yellow line. The train does. You will not.
  • Do not run for the doors. The salaryman has not read this notice.
  • Keep hold of your belongings. Bags and umbrellas catch in the doors and take their owner back out with them.
  • Do not separate couples. It costs you.
  • Meet the quota. Miss it and you are fined. Miss it too often and the station closes.
  • Every station, sign and train colour in this game is invented. No real railway was pushed.
  • This service is in development. There is no release date, and the timetable knows it.
